In eternity view

When it’s a job
The limits are great
But can I change
Or is it my fate

Are we so wired
That all is ordained
What a limited view
And so I complain

There must be more
As we open our eyes
Re-frame our world
Let vision arise

Yes we are wired
For things that we like
Things we are good at
Things that are tight

But how they fit in
We limit by sight
Assumptions we make
Block out the light

So choose to believe
You have a fine place
Always evolving
Increasing in grace

How I deploy it
Determines all things

The boundaries I set
The choices I make
Influence I let

So how do I know
The virtuous path
To be most productive
To make myself laugh

The values to take
To have as the guidelines
My history to make

Shame is there
Against our goal
Who are we Our self to hold
Accountable
For who we are
and what we do

Yet fruit comes forth
By seeds we plant
And grace is their
For what we can’t

Thinking about my latter years
Anxious over the poor preparation
Feeling behind the pace of time

Yet from the start
I’ve placed my trust
In the holy God
Deliver us
To save us from our own miss-steps
The important areas we’ve been inept

From early years I had the dream
To walk with God in plans unseen
To live in supernatural flow
Not bound by natural laws
And know – that all is well

With purity of heart went forth
Attending to what I’d been taught
Of trusting in the holy writ
Extremely loyal not to quit

Now looking back o’r many years
Having questions
Near to tears
Seeming little left behind
In contribution
Or work combined

So once again reach deep inside
Ask for wisdom from our guide
Not only for the way to go
But augment us with those who know
What’s needed to complete this show

Always have liked Dr. Seuss

A colleague commented on my poetry occasionally having that Dr. Seuss feel. Fox in Sox being one of my favorites. I loved it when the kids asked me to read it. I recognize that most of the versus tend to be heavy on the rhyme side, not the way of the more modern poetry. Well, the comment was an encouragement to make way for the more fun side.

Teach me Oh Lord
To rest in my work
To flow with your spirit
And not be a jerk

How brazen of me
To think I’d do better
Than the creator of all
Who can change even the weather

But I believe
He really does care
The mundane of my life
Daily to share

Yes I do, yes I do
He’ll share your life too
And order your steps
As no other can do

Just believe, just believe
He lives in your heart
The core of your being
Knows your part, knows your part.

Who's in charge of my results?

So much of our result is a result of hard wired aspects of our personality. If we are judged by works, then the “fair” thing would be how do we do with what we have. Even then, what choices in the use of what we have impact our effectiveness. Is developing our body worth more than developing our mind. Is helping others worth more than developing self?



Come on board with me today
The ocean and the spirit say
Rest in me take up the flow
Secure the stream with goodness show

Carry not the heavy weight
Responsibility for your fate
Rest in me it is your part
For I put purpose in your heart

Sure you have some things to do
I ask your best – apply – be true
Yet when it comes to bottom line
Accountability for results is mine!

It can’t be for bitterness and strife
If I believe there is a greater one
There must be something to be done

Does it happen to me
Like the growth of a tree

To make myself be

Till the planner shows his hand

Are you driven by work

Look deep inside

Must you be known

Why are we here?
What is our worth?
Clear is the purpose
For life on the earth?

We look at our life
Examine our ways
Leaves many questions
For the ancient of days

What will you believe
As origin of all
An act of creation
Or a random atoll

I found a book
It serves me well
It tells of a story
Of heaven and hell

It gives me a way
To fame all there is
To put in perspective
Gives answers when quizzed

The rules of engagement
Are perfectly clear
Faith is required
For a functioning ear

Believing comes first
Before you can know
The truth in the book
The rules of the show

I missed our time this morning Lord
And went about my day
The things that are before me
Are more like work than play

The holy God is with me

God of all the earth

Continues to be complex

Who am I
You would think I know
Been living with me
Years in a row

In recent months
I’ve learned many things
Some that make
My heart sing

At the core
Is where I am
Believe it is
Eternal’s plan

Yet wrapped around
Are many voices
Great influence
On daily choices

In this latter
Stage of life
The work has shifted
Never light

More complex
It seems to be
To do the work
Aligned with me

So this I do
And this I don’t
Without more help
I guess I won’t

If there is
A universal plan
It makes some sense
To be who I am

An expression of
The God of love
Who made me thus
His plan to trust

So take my hand
Let’s find our place
And win together
The great race.

Before me

A story

Its back to that idea

There is a heavenly place for each of us on the earth

Enter in to the work I send
Be at peace you are my friend
The things I ask are not that hard
When faced with rest, to do your part

Each one different, each one made
To do a part that I have made
When you find that place of fit
You’ll come to know what glory writ

The glory’s here so come this way
You must believe and come by faith
The door is open do not wait.

A place I have for you to win
Victory over flesh and sin
Walk with me your glorious twin.

To step behind the veil
Draw His mighty power

New years eve 2008

Had an interesting experience last evening. Eleven of us, and a bunch of kids, came together to share some of the ways God intersected our lives in the past year. As people were sharing some verses came to mind. As I would write the verses the content of the next speaker would aligned with the just written verses -- interesting.

For mercy and grace
Times of beauty
Find our place
Walk together
Hand in hand
Growing up
To know your plan

Not a solo
Place to be
But joined together
To be free

Your spirit dwells
Within our hearts
Showing us
The other parts

My spirit will
Show you the way
To walk in fullness
For today
In fullness of my
Perfect plan
Your part revealed
By gentle hand

I’ll bring you to
Your special place
Part of the larger
Work of grace

My body will
Behave as one
Needed for
The job be done

For in the end
